Healthcare providers are increasingly embracing value-based payment (VBP) models, which focus on treatment outcomes, clinical outcomes, and patient experience scores. However, when serving racially and culturally diverse communities, they face several challenges in maximizing their reimbursement revenue under these models.

Here are some of the challenges our workshops are designed to help providers overcome as they seek to improve their VBP and performance outcomes:

Challenges:

  1. Variability in Health Outcomes:

    • Different racial and ethnic groups often have variable health outcomes due to a range of biological, environmental, and socioeconomic factors. Providers may find it challenging to meet specific outcome measures across diverse patient groups.

  2. Socioeconomic Factors:

    • Social determinants of health, such as income, education, and housing, can impact health outcomes and patient experience, making it more difficult for providers to achieve the benchmarks set by VBP models.

  3. Cultural and Language Barriers:

    • Language barriers and cultural differences can hinder effective communication, impact patient adherence to treatment plans, and affect patient satisfaction scores.

  4. Access to Care:

    • Patients from diverse communities often face issues related to access to care, which can affect health outcomes and patient experience.

  5. Bias and Disparities in Care:

    • Implicit bias and systemic issues can result in disparities in care, impacting clinical outcomes.
